本書以臨床防治為主線，力圖突出相關的基本知識和臨床防治方法。書中也適當介紹了國內外有關齲病病因、齲病防治相關的最新研究成果和研究動向。 本書分為三個部分，第一部分，重點介紹與齲病發生有關的基礎知識、齲病的病因病理、發病過程、流行情況等；第二部分，重點介紹齲病的臨床特點、分類，診斷方法和鑒別診斷、治療原則、預防技術；第三部分，著重介紹齲病研究的一些前沿問題。對于齲病缺損的修復方法，一般在《牙體牙髓病學》和《口腔修復學》等專著中介紹，讀者可以參見相關的書籍，本書不專門介紹。
